Iagnosis and the Dermatology Center of Raleigh Team Up to Improve Patient Convenience With New Mobile App to Conduct Innovative Online Dermatology Visits in North Carolina

The Teledermatology Center of Raleigh and Iagnosis partner to increase access to health care specialists for North Carolina residents with concerns or conditions that require a prescription by accepting user-submitted photographs on a HIPAA- and HITECH-compliant website.

Iagnosis, the nation’s leader in online dermatology solutions, announced today that it has partnered with The Dermatology Center of Raleigh to provide a mobile app, making it even easier for patients to conduct online visits for dermatological care.  The Dermatology Center of Raleigh will now be able to offer online visits with a board-certified dermatologist to patients across the state of North Carolina. Patients can use a smartphone, tablet or computer through the website link www.tdcor.com or the new The Dermatology Center of Raleigh mobile app for Apple and Android devices, available for free on the App Store or on Google Play.

Dr. Carol Trakimas, Medical Director of The Dermatology Center of Raleigh, was stationed at Walter Reed Medical Center as a Captain in the U.S. Army and was involved with what became the early makings of what we now know as teledermatology

With the advent of modern technology, we are receiving clearer images from patients and referring doctors, as well as having far better information sent to us in a crisper and more seamless way.

"The promise of teledermatology excited me because I was able to help soldiers from afar. I was able to assess the online teledermatology consult, give the referring physicians answers to their queries and provide diagnoses and guidance for the patients’ treatment plans. This enabled the physicians to send soldiers back to duty or to refer them to the appropriate place for further evaluation," stated Dr. Trakimas.

“I have been following teledermatology for all these years, and I am excited to see that technology has caught up. With the advent of modern technology, we are receiving clearer images from patients and referring doctors, as well as having far better information sent to us in a crisper and more seamless way.  These advances in technology and digital imagery now make it possible to have a quick visit from the patient perspective and a clear-cut package sent to me as a dermatologist to make a virtual visit a reality.  I have partnered with DermatologistOnCall powered by Iagnosis to launch The Teledermatology Center of Raleigh platform to give access to online care at the convenience of business professionals.”

With a shortage of board-certified dermatologists in the United States, some patients wait up to three months or longer for in-office appointments. Additionally, of the more than 100 million dermatological conditions and diseases diagnosed each year in the U.S., only 35 million are treated by board-certified dermatologists, while 65 million are treated by primary care physicians, walk-in medical providers or via over-the-counter medications.

To use the service, patients simply visit www.tdcor.com or download and launch the mobile app to provide a brief medical history, information about their condition, and upload photos. After review, the dermatologist provides a diagnosis and a personalized treatment plan, including necessary prescriptions within 24 hours on average. When medically necessary, the patient will be referred for an in-office visit.  Among the more than 3,000 conditions for which patients access the system, the most common are acne, rashes, suspicious moles, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, melanoma and other skin cancers.

“We are excited to be working with a progressive group like The Dermatology Center of Raleigh. This mobile app makes it more convenient than ever for patients in North Carolina to access a board-certified dermatologist, especially in today’s digital age,” said Dave Zynn, CEO of Iagnosis. “Kids do not have to miss school and parents will not miss work to initiate an online visit for a variety of conditions like acne, rashes or suspicious moles.”
